Meetup Vol#15 "Blockchain for Food Supply Chain"

On September, 2020, eSatya and Blockchain Foundation Nepal hosted its 15th Meetup on “Blockchain for Food Supply Chain”. The meetup was supported by CSIT Association of Nepal, ASCOL IT Club & Digital Notice, India. As the shutdown is imposed in the country, the meetup was conducted virtually via Google Meet and was also streamed Live via eSatya’s Facebook page. Today we conducted the 15th Meetup on the theme “Blockchain for Food Supply Chain” with the speakers Mr. Ravi Chandra Koirala and Mr. Agrani Amatya. Mr. Koirala is a PhD researcher at the University of the West Scotland. His research area is oriented towards the application of Blockchain Technology, predominantly focused in the Supply Chain Domain. Mr. Amatya is a Campus Director for Hult Prize on Campus at IOST i.e the Institute of Science and Technology, Nepal.The session was moderated by Ms. Ashmita Manandhar Shrestha - Project Lead, eSatya.The main objective of this meetup was to discuss the use and application of the Blockchain technology in the Food Supply Chain and raise awareness about the Hult Prize-which has a challenge 'Food for Good: Transforming food into a vehicle for change'.Mr. Koirala spoke about the blockchain basics and then shed light on the Supply Chain domain of the same. With showcasing the examples of how Blockchain technology has been used in the People’s Republic of China and Australia, he also talked about the scope it has in the agricultural and developing country like Nepal. Ms. Ashmita also spoke of how eSatya has been contributing to the same with its product- AgriClear is a mobile-based system which helps in tracking good agricultural habits & practices from farm to finger.In the second half, Mr. Amatya introduced the Hult Prize to the attendees and also encouraged everyone to participate in the competition that will eventually award One Million Dollars as the seed funding to the ultimate winners.With more than 60 attendees in the session, the interesting part was the queries session where our speakers clearly answered their dilemma while promising them of any help possible from their side.https://www.facebook.com/hultiost/videos/2803833806498866
