The Web3 revolution isn’t coming. It’s already here, and it’s gaming
On May 14, 2025, eSatya hosted its 47th meetup, bringing together over 45 participants for an exciting session exploring how blockchain is reshaping the future of gaming. The virtual room was buzzing with curiosity, insight, and innovation as we welcomed two dynamic speakers who brought both personal stories and deep expertise to the table.
Speaker 1: Swarna Nagrani
Co-founder, Web3Skill
Swarna opened the session by taking us back to where it all started, Web1 with static pages, then Web2 with social platforms and interactivity, and now Web3, where ownership and decentralization are the name of the game.
She shared a real, relatable moment. Ever spend hours grinding in a game, collecting coins, skins, and gear… only to lose it all because you were playing as a guest? That happened to her in 8-ball pool, and it inspired her journey into blockchain gaming. Because in Web3, you actually own your stuff👾
Imagine using your PUBG skin in Free Fire. Selling it. Trading it. Owning it. That’s the kind of interoperability blockchain gaming enables. And it’s not just hype, it's happening. She also touched on the Metaverse, where people are buying virtual land, hosting parties, and building businesses, all while chilling in their PJs with a VR headset.
Swarna broke down why Web3 gaming is different:
-
You own your assets
-
You can earn real rewards
-
It’s secure
-
You help shape the game
Her journey from studying animation to diving into 3D modeling, UI/UX, and eventually blockchain game dev was inspiring. She encouraged everyone to explore this space.
Speaker 2: Mallika Bhattarai
CEO, Nepal PayTime | Product Lead @ Venture23
Mallika brought the structure, strategy, and some serious clarity. Her approach?
“Fun first, blockchain second. But remember—both matter.”
She started with a reminder that gaming isn’t just play, it’s:
-
An escape
-
A culture
-
A career
-
Even a side hustle
Then came the breakdown of what it takes to build a Web3 game: from choosing the right game genre (FPS, RPG, MMO, etc.) to designing the core loop, mapping rewards, and setting up monetization. She also covered the tech stack, smart contracts, game engines like Unity or Godot, and tools like SDKs and wallets.
Mallika emphasized that not everything needs to be on-chain. It’s expensive and unnecessary for some game functions. Most successful games use a hybrid model, keeping assets (like NFTs or tokens) on-chain while running gameplay off-chain for better performance.
She kept it real:
-
Only 5% of gamers have used crypto wallets
-
Onboarding is messy
-
Tokenomics is tricky
-
Community is powerful, but it can get toxic if mismanaged
But community is also where the magic happens. She highlighted how DAOs like NounDAO are funding entire games, and how cultural memes, lore, and rituals are often more powerful than the tech itself. She encouraged attendees to dive into communities based on their interests, because “if you're not plugged into a Web3 community yet, you're missing half the experience”.
Key Takeaways
-
Blockchain gaming gives power to the players
-
Devs can build immersive, ownable experiences across platforms
-
The Metaverse isn’t a buzzword; it’s a growing digital economy
-
Strong community and token design = success
-
Web3 is global, borderless, and full of wild opportunities
Whether you’re a DevOps, designer, strategist, gamer, or just curious, Web3 gaming is calling. And it’s not too late to jump in.
Swarna and Mallika reminded us that the future of gaming is not just about fun… It’s about freedom, ownership, and community.
