The 18th meetup from eSatya was successfully held on March 10, 2021. The meetup was entitled “Crypto Regulations in Nepal”. The main objective of the meetup was to highlight the initiation, as well as to get proper knowledge from the industry expert. The speakers for the meetup were Mr.Prakash K. Shrestha and Mr.Nara B.Thapa.
The first speaker for the session was Mr. Prakash K. Shrestha. He is the Economic Advisor at the Ministry of Finance, Government of Nepal. He discussed the current status of cryptocurrency in South Asia and Nepal, the reasons for cryptocurrencies being banned in Nepal, and their possibilities of being legal in Nepal.
The second speaker for the session was Mr.Nara B.Thapa. He is the Former Executive Director at Nepal Rastra Bank. He highlighted the participants on the challenges of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) in implementing cryptocurrencies in Nepal and a new policy for crypto. He also discussed the NRB’s research on Central Bank Digital Currency (CDBC).
The meetup was moderated by Mr.Santosh Shrestha, Founder of Rumsan Group of Companies. The meetup was supported by the CSIT Association of Nepal, ASCOL IT Club, Digital Notice India. The meetup was hosted in the virtual platform Zoom and was streamed live via eSatya’s Facebook page. 85 attendees attended the meetup in Zoom and 50 people attended the meetup through eSatya’s Facebook page.
The session was followed by an interesting question and answer session where the participant’s queries were answered by respective speakers.
